History

In the beginning

The Pike & Eel Boat Club was born on Sunday 7th August 1966 and in 2016 we celebrated our 50th year with a very special event.

The main objective of the Boat Club is to enjoy the company of other boat owners, and offer a spirit of friendship to everyone using the river. Our regular social get-togethers, and range of events and functions make it a great place to make new friends, and gather advice and guidance on any boating matters. Our Regattas are known throughout the region as being a fantastic weekend of fun and games for everyone and their families to attend and join in!

Our first Commodore was Reg Brewer and the very first function held was a Laying Up Buffet dance. Encouraged by the success of this first event, the following year saw more events planned and an increase in membership.

Many of the functions that were held back then are still included in our calendar, like the Laying Up Supper, Commodore’s Cocktail Party and our Regatta weekend. Over the years the inevitable changes have taken place but the original spirit of the club lives on and we continue to thrive and encourage boaters along the river to come and see how they too can enjoy our boat club.

The Pike & Eel Boat club is located downstream of St Ives lock in the extensive grounds of the Pike & Eel Hotel. Our social calendar includes cruising, land-based events, dining events and socialising with other boat clubs so there is something for everybody to enjoy and take part in.

In our 58th year we are very proud that our club still upholds its original objectives and has been part of the River Great Ouse for so many years.

Membership of our great club is open to everyone from any marina! Why not join our club and enjoy the benefits associated with membership of the Pike & Eel Boat Club – we really do have some wonderful events, and you’ll make some great friends too!
